The School Safety Patrol was founded in 1935 by the San Diego Police Department in response to the high number of accidents involving children traveling to and from school.
The members of our safety patrol are all fifth grade students who are selected on the basis of their academic performance, citizenship, and maturity. Students must demonstrate the willingness to take responsibility for their commitment to the patrol if asked to participate in the program.
